Term Time or Part Time WFH

Hi everyone, I'm just looking for some thoughts on my current situation.

I'm currently working 2 jobs, both part time from home and it works quite well around the children but school holidays are a bit of a pain and boundaries get blurred with working from home. I'm missing the face to face contact and hate staring at a screen all the time, I want to be doing more varied, hands on work and don't get that much excitement from one of my jobs. I applied for a part time, term time only job with 40 weeks per year, in Admin which pays quite a lot less per hour, although a bit more each month as I'd be working more hours. I'd have a 15-20 minute commute in each direction.

I'd be able to keep 1 of my jobs that I love and don't want to give up and think this would give me a good balance of working nearly full time (kids will both be in secondary in September) and most school holidays off (working 2 hours a day if I continue with my current job alongside) but it's the lower pay that worries me although I'm in the lucky position of working primarily for fulfilment and to support my own career and pension rather than just the money money. WWYD?

I also forgot to mention that while I'm not feeling completely fulfilled and missing the social contact, I'm really lucky to have such flexibility with my current jobs so need to factor this in too.

I think the new plan sounds like a great compromise and if you can afford it, go for it!

So your total salary will reduce?
Sounds good for increasing social contact and work / life balance but do consider the impact on your pension as well.

@Taswama my overall salary would increase by £300 a month but I'd be working double the number of hours each year and have to pay for petrol. I'd effectively be working full time during term time and 10 hours a week school holidays.

I think that sounds ok then. Unless your kids have frequent medical appointments for example they won't need you during the day in term time much. Is it school hours as well or 9-5?

If it's 9-5 and if they are used to you being at home every day, they may need to be more independent than currently eg letting themselves in from school, getting on with homework, even making / starting tea.
I know you said its a short commute but you don't want to still be doing everything yourself (if you are currently) and working full time.

But if you are happy to take a per hour pay cut for a more interesting job, then go for it.

Thank you for your replies @bobbybobbins and @taswama. That's exactly what I needed, some clear perspective and thoughts I hadn't considered.
