New job, need to know when pay day is but don’t want to ask.

It says on contract “no later than the last day of the month”.
It will be nearly 7 weeks since I’ve had any pay. (Finishing last job, starting new)
I really need to know but feel really cheeky asking.
Is there a way of finding out without asking?
Thanks.

I operate a payroll and would absolutely not see this question as grabby.

We pay on 23rd of the month with a cut off of the week before.

For those being kind and helpful thank you, I very much appreciate it.

Don’t be so soft. Just ask ffs. Everyone’s only working for wages…. Unless ur working for the fun of it ? If u don’t want to ask ur boss ask a colleague. I would take this is ur payday is the last working days of each month !

I'd ask, it's a normal question to have

It’s not grabby to ask when pay day is it’s a perfectly normal question for a new member of staff . Your not at this job for fun it’s to earn a living go and ask .

Lifeismeh · 20/03/2022 18:26

I once asked when pay day was and how to find out if my holiday had been approved (three weeks in) and I got fired because ‘my interests in money clearly outweighed trying to help the business’ 😂

It's a perfectly normal question to ask HR. In addition, if you're struggling due to the gap after leaving your last job, it may be worth asking whether they have a salary advance scheme (I think that's the right name?) for new starters - some workplaces recognise that this can be an issue and have a process where you can request some of your first salary payment to be paid early I believe, to tide you over till the normal payday. Or it may be mentioned in your joining paperwork or any induction/new starter information on their internal website/systems for example.

Ask 100% Have they taken bank details?

The only place I worked at not knowing payday it took the firm 2 weeks to ask for bank details after starting like and they paid me about a week later! (think it would have been considered a relative small firm)

If you don't like asking payday directly, then try asking about whether cut off applies?

At my current place start after 7th you will be waiting until end of the next month to receive first pay, though to be fair we're paid on the 25th which is pretty cool. So I think my first pay was akin to the timeline of a new universal credit claim. ie. 5 weeks. To make you wait nearly 2 months I'd hope they offered an advance!

Yes...same at my place.,,if you start after the first week of the month when the overtime/mileage deadline is....then you wait an extra month to get paid.

Perfectly normal question to ask.

Just ask.

PukkaP · 20/03/2022 20:30

Please just ask. They should already have told you. I recently started managing a new member of staff and he asked me after a week or so. I felt dreadful that I hadn't already told him. Please just ask.

BashfulClam · 03/04/2022 17:49

From that wording I would’ve over to be paid on the last working day of the month.

RedskyThisNight · 03/04/2022 18:02

Ask a colleague if you don't want to ask anyone "official".

FogniniFog · 03/04/2022 18:11

In my experience “no later than the last day of the month" usually means the last working day of the month.

Like, if the month ends on Sat 31st, you get paid on Fri 30th.

But if the month ends on Fri 31st, you get paid on Fri 31st.
