Hi,
I was made redundant during the first Covid lockdown after 25 years of working in same company. So I changed careers and fortunately got a job within a government building. It wasn't in the field I'm qualified but it never shut down during the other lockdowns and I considered it a safe job.
Well along comes Boris Government again and this week we were notified in work that our entire building is shutting down and Im being made redundant !!! again !!

At first I thought my department would be offered a transfer to another gov building but no we are all being made redundant.
I'm shattered. Dont know what to do.
Oh I know the drill C.V and get back out there but I cannot believe I'm getting made redundant again within two years.

I’m very sorry OP.

However you landed a job quickly, and now you have extra experience so no reason you won’t do again.

If it makes you feel any better, jobs for life are increasingly rare outside specific professions so lots of people experiencing the same thing.

Do you have money from 1st redundo to tide you over?

I think Brook Street agency hold the contract for temporary Government workers. You will be at an advantage for govt admin roles and perhaps get a permie role that way? See what government offices there are where you live. Eg Courts, Prisons, DVLA, DEFRA, DWP, BEIS, and register with temp agency & gov.uk jobs

@PaulaTrilloe - you're correct - Brook Street holds the contract for most if not all Government departments.

I would say, depending on the admin role you're going for, it can take ages to find the role, apply and then be taken on permanently.

PaulaTrilloe · 23/03/2022 09:18

Just get into a role and then apply for something you prefer. I got a temp job in a prison then asked Brook Street to get me a job in a government department I was more interested in. I temped for 3 years until I became permanent civil servant.

Sorry to hear this OP, it is such a shock when you get the notice especially out of the blue like that Flowers

Fairyarmpits · 23/03/2022 10:20

Lots of uncertainty at the moment so I would just put it down to being unlucky.

You need to dust yourself off and get back out there. I wouldn't overthink it. It won't help you at all.

Sorry to hear this op, it’s a horrible situation to be in so soon after the last time.

As others have said, get out there immediately and start looking. As it’s an entire building going, you’ll have competition, so get ahead whilst you can.

Good luck!
