GP says I'm still unfit for work

Hi,

Hoping to get some advice. I have been off work since the start of January with long covid. My fit note ran out yesterday and I made a request for my GP to give me a note to return on reduced hours. They have refused and signed me off again as unfit for work due to low oxygen levels. I'm really worried I will lose my job as I have already had previous time off due to bereavement. I had already told my work I would be coming back and am so anxious at calling them now or sending them the note. I was thinking of just not sending them the note and returning but I definitely don't think I can work my full shifts but they won't reduce my hours without a note. I am in rent arrears and universal credit/SSP doesn't even cover all my bills hence being pretty desperate to get back to work.

Just looking for any advice at all as I'm in panic mode at the moment which isn't helping my breathing.

If your gp is saying you are unwell whilst you are telling them you are well I think you need to listen to them. Be honest with your workplace and look after your health. Sorry that you have money worries though - it is very shit.

Can you apply for pip?

LIZS · 03/03/2022 11:51

Are you eligible for any benefits in lieu of sick pay? Would your gp agree to a phased return?

MrsKippling · 03/03/2022 12:05

@nomoneytree thank you, I will look into PIP but I know it's a lengthy process and difficult to get. I've got myself so worked up now as was mentally preparing myself to get back to work

@LIZS it was a phased return that I was requesting but my GP refused and said she wants me to go to A&E today because of my breathing. I already have been claiming some universal credit and SSP but it's not enough to pay off my arrears aswell as existing bills.

If your GP is worried about your breathing enough to send you to A&E for God’s sake go!!!!!!!!

Work cannot sake you if you have a valid fit note. Please go and get yourself looked after.

Sack you. Sorry, typo.

Please go to A and E ASAP if that is what your GP has recommended. Work is a bridge that can be crossed later and you need to take care of yourself. Flowers

Are you handing in sick notes to UC ? They should send you a work capability form after 29 days of handing in sick notes. If it becomes a longer term problem then, your Uc may increase after an assessment.
