So I told my customers in January I'm putting my rates up from April to £12.00ph I'm a self employed cleaner. They was all fine with this but with all the increase happening and the cost of living literally going threw the rough I'm thinking it's not going to be enough attall. I don't no what to do :(

Press on with your planned increase, review in a few months time. Can you increase your availability, and therefore the number of hours you get paid for, depending on your family circumstances?

Just let them know its going higher. things have changed a lot again since January. if someone wants to afford a cleaner, £4 extra a week or whatever it comes to next isn't going to make a difference.

I think you should stick with what you said for now.

I don't agree with biggreenhouse . Plenty of non-wealthy people have cleaners. They are also being squeezed with the rise in the cost of living. They might be looking as to where they can make cuts to fit the increased petrol, food, gas and electricity rises into their budget. They have all understood your need to increase and so far accepted that. A change / second rise might be the thing that makes them decide they can do their own cleaning, and having a cleaner is a luxury they can cut from their budget.

Ultimately, it will depend on the balance of potentially losing some customers vs potentially increasing income.

people would get rid of their cleaner without a second thought if they decided they couldn't afford it / didn't want them any more. I don't know where you live but my cleaner has a waiting list and even she was hard to find as others were so busy too. you need to look after yourself not risk your own finances worrying about other people finding a few extra quid

Hi there, @Lou22000, sorry to appear in your thread unannounced but you'd started the discussion in our Site Stuff topic, which wasn't the best place for it. We've now moved it over to the Work topic, which seems a better fit, and we hope you get some useful advice and support here. Flowers
