Term time working and starting less than 2 weeks before a school holiday

Hi.

My understanding of Term time pay is that your annual salary is divided over 12 equal payments. However how does it work when you start less than 2 weeks before the a school holiday?

I am due to start my job in the office 10 days before the Easter Break. Is this likely to be paid as I haven't chosen to take this holiday, school will be closed.

So excited to start, but I am worried about having 2 weeks unpaid leave due to when I am starting, in which case I may need to ask to start after the Easter Break.

Would you not have confirmed all the dates that you are working and not working to HR in advance? If you haven't chosen to take the Easter holidays off, then they will pay you unless you have put it in black and white to HR?

No it won’t be paid if you only work term time. You chose not to work in the Easter holidays when you took the job.

Your holiday pay is added to your salary and divided throughout the 12 months too. I think.

I work term time only (non teaching) and my salary is paid over 12 months.

Check with HR. I see what you mean that you will only have physically present for two weeks out of your first four weeks.

I would imagine they will pay you as it will work itself out over the first twelve months. In the unlikely event you don't go back after the Easter break you will owe them some money.

You pay rate is for the worked weeks only divided by 12 so you receive a monthly pay, so you are not paid for school holidays as such. You need to ask hr how they will spread the wages for the remainder of the academic year.

I know school holidays aren't paid, but the way pay is worked is that it's divided equally over 12 months, so you get the same monthly pay regardless of the school holidays. Its because I'm starting so close to the Easter break.

I have asked the question anyway. As I'd rather know now before starting as I may have to asked to start after

Yes whatever you earn for the year will be divided over 12 months. However sometimes this may be lower than you would expect if the bulk of the holidays is within the period you work that school year but will go up next school year if that makes sense.

Are you in a school? You will get a normal paypacket, ime.
Likewise, support staff with 1 months notice hand it in to make their last worki g day the last day of the holidays.
If you are TTO somewhere else, I'm not sure what they will do.

I also started about 3 weeks before Easter holidays and still got paid.

My understanding is that your salary will be calculated up to 31st August then divided by how many months left. If you leave before then your final pay will be adjusted.

I'm not currently in a school so this is my first time working in a term time role. I suppose as I was told it was 12 equal payments, I just assumed each month would be the same pay regardless of how the holidays fell. I'm looking forward to it but I need to get my head around what the monthly pay will be. It makes sense but I wasn't told how it would by divided over the remaining weeks of the school year as then I imagine it will be less than I'm expecting/what I'm currently on.

My formal offer is being sent over today and I'm told all information is in there

Yes, your annual salary should be split over 12 months, regardless of whether you are in or not.
