Which internal job do I try for or neither?

Public sector both in my current department. Same pay grade around 40k

Job A- nice policy based job, very niche subject (but a subject I love), could potentially be slow paced and boring a times. However brand new role I could shape would have prospects but longer term. Permanent position, wfh.

Job B- fast paced, hit the ground running, results driven, I'd be learning a lot needed for next step up, could be stressful at times, still a very interesting subject area but one I know less about. 3 year contract, good prospects of moving up to 50k within 2-3 years, wfh.

I've got a really good chance with both and have been encouraged by both managers posting these positions to go for them.

Depends on a couple of things.

  1. Your work style, as the pace and culture of these jobs sound very different. If, like me, your ideal falls somewhere in between the two, then I'd consider
  1. Your lifestyle and where you are in your personal life at the mo.

Go for both jobs, when you get them then you can decide which you would prefer.

Go for both and then decide!

Savvysix1984 · 01/03/2022 09:36

For me it depends what 'subject' I was more interested in.

Thanks Ruby good points to ponder on
I like variety of current and role b but it can be tiring and sometimes weeks are hectic but I work well under pressure.
I've got 2 dc under 10 and husband covers most school runs.
I need to be more active in day but often too tired after work and how busy the day has been so don't make the gym.
Also I may need an operation within next 2 years that would mean a few weeks off work to recover.

I could really do with someone in the organisation guiding me but every one would be biased (unknowingly) in their advice as it effects the team overall.
To make things more tricky job a currently out but job b out in next few weeks if it was at the same time would be easier

Any reason you’re not applying for both? They both sound attractive and unless you’ve already been offered one keep your options open.
