Handing in notice whilst on sick leave

I am currently off work with stress, much of it due to work. I'm on medication and slowly getting better. Whilst off I applied for one job. I felt so unwell and rejected their interview invite. They were lovely and rescheduled it for another day. I still felt unwell but didn't want to let them down so somehow got through the interview- and was offered the job. It's something that I really want to do and am so excited. I need to hand in my notice at work but feel it looks bad to do it whilst on sick leave. How would you approach this please?

Just hand it in as your would normally. They will be half expecting it if your on long term sick and tbh probably relieved. You’ve no need to feel bad, you’re doing what’s best for your career and health.

Don't hand in your notice until you have been formally offered the role and sent a contract just in case your sickness record causes any kind of issue - but once you get past that then you just resign as you would normally.

If work is the cause of your stress - I am very plesed for you that you have found way out Flowers good luck!

I've done it.

I just handed in my notice as normal to HR. It was no big deal Smile

We always have to hand notice to line manager - face to face pre-pandemic now over phone or video call. I think that's what's stressing me, really don't want that conversation.

You don't have to. Send it in an email or written letter. They can't insist you do it live.

Once you have a written offer for your new job send an email with your notice. They can't actually force you to have a meeting.

You do not have to do this face to face. Send them a letter.
