Can I be sued if I withdraw after accepting a job?

I accepted a job last week, but at the end of the week I was offered another job at another company for more money.

I am thinking about what to do, but does anyone know if I can be sued if I back out of the first job after accepting it?

I have verbally accepted it and agreed a start date. But I haven't received or signed a contract yet.

I need to find out more about job 2 before making my mind up, but there's no point thinking about it if I could be dragged to court.

No company would sue you for this. Just tell
Them no.

No you can't, same way they can withdraw their offer to you prior to contracts being signed, but be sure to withdraw politely as you may deal with them in the future.

No. It will be fine. It happens all the time.

What? Why on Earth would you think you could be sued?

Loopytiles · 20/02/2022 15:54

Happens often.

People accepting but then changing mind, not companies suing people for doing so!

I have done this and it was fine. I had even signed a contract. Just be professional and respectful and give a brief reason for why you’re no longer taking the job. It does happen more than you’d think.
