I've been in a PA job since last July - so e.g. for past 7 months. Initially I started off well but had 2 clashes with bosses and stopped working with one after a month and the other before the end of the year. Generally I really get on with most people and work well. I have found focussing hard recently but think this is due to stress/menopause and worrying about passing probation.
In past few years by choice I've worked various contracts in and out of government and in corporate firms but have had permanent jobs ranging from 1 year, 5 years, 6 years etc. Have also changed to legal secretary/PA too.
My last contract (for 18 months) was in government and I would've stayed but pay was low, horrendous bullying culture whilst I was there (which had to be looked into by an external company. It was more of a Team Sec/PA role but I got on well with my colleagues - 1 was above me and the other joined about three quarters of the way into my contract and I trained her on my job as there was a dept split with 2 of us doing same job but the dept was very busy so a lot of work.
I really enjoyed training her and she felt I was good doing this.
We also had regular catch ups - casual coffee ones and also re work too. This current job hardly any of those just a monthly PA meeting!
One of the only reasons I'm in this role is it's fairly well paid, will probably go permanent in July (if I want it) but I am not interested in the work at all!
I think I've answered my question - I've seen Learning and Development roles in law firms advertised - was also thinking HR but that is so wide ranging and covers lots of training etc. So L&D seems to be the right fit for me. I also enjoyed my legal secretarial work but more from helping clients side. I actually get on with lawyers as I can see the value in their work and the areas they work in, character etc.
I think I will pass my probation period (see other post) and I have to really finance wise. I can do without the stress of not having money and I have savings but don't want to dip into those loads and they're not unlimited anyway. I'd love to do what others do which is 'find something they love and do it' but I've honestly never found that - or I feel that now at 50 it's a bit too late!
Anyone else had this? any other tips?
