Negotiating flexible working options..

Hi All
Looking at moving from PT to FT but keen to look at flexible options so I can be around for school finish times where possible for the majority of the week. Was thinking of staggered finish times across a hybrid work pattern.
Is it feasible to work 6 hrs per day at work do the school pick up and then finish the working day at home, subject to meetings etc or potentially working 2 longer days from home and 3 shorter days in the office. May well be blue sky thinking but would be good to see some options that work..

Try the 2 longer days. You will find it less stressful. It’s tricky doing the 3pm pick up if that when you finish.

Maybe do the longer days in the office. Then you get a lunch, less rushing. Then 3 days at home. It’s much easier, but you could try both depending on your commute. 6 hours is a long day without a break if you’re trying to do 9-3.

What ages are the children? Will you be able to fully focus on work when children are home? My employer doesn't allow us to work if we are children are home and no other parent is home who is responsible for them

My job is quite flexible and I do similar - work around 5-6 hours in the office then go get DD from nursery and take her home. Then I either do dinner and bedtime stuff before logging back on later or if I have meetings then DH does childcare so I can work.

There is no formal agreement in place for this, just an understanding between me and my manager (and over a decade of goodwill and trust built up).

I guess it depends on the actual work too, on whether it's feasible.

I actually have an indirect report who does this. She worked in the office 9.30-2.30ish then takes a "lunch" and starts work again 3.30-6 at home.
Shes productive it works for all of us and flexible working approach makes it happen!

Are you customer facing at all? Would it impact on your colleagues work loads?
