I'm due to start working full-time as a HCSW soon and am just wondering if anyone can tell me how often they work nights and weekends? I understand this probably differs between Trusts but it would be useful to get an idea of what I'm getting myself into!

On my ward, it’s 2 full weekends & at least one week of nights every 4 weeks.
Hope your new post goes well.

All I can say is it will be a damn site more than you will want to do! Then there’s the Xmas day thing, you may as well write Xmas off now. I wish you the best of luck, you are going to need it.

Our trust 'tries' to give 1.5 weekends off per 4 weeks. Nights vary. I've done a 5 month run of nights with the odd day here and there. Generally it's been 50/50. I've had 2 Chtistmasses off in 7 years, both on mat leave. I hope you join a good team because that can make it feel a breeze.

It depends what setting you work in. In community they work 9-5

My ward, we do long days and typically it’s one long day every other weekend. Some people want to work both days every other weekend which I try to accommodate.

Nights varies. They are easier to cover with bank and we do have some regular night staff so rotation isn’t that frequent generally.
