Thank you for starting this thread OP as I assumed it was just automatically something that was available every year.

Another thing to budget for then Sad

I don't think anything is official but Martin Lewis said it would likely change to reduce eligibility.

Interesting, any idea on how they will reduce eligibility?

Boris and his cronie landlords want everyone spending their time commuting to rented offices in towns and cities so I think the relief will be cut

Regarding changing eligibility, they will probably say something like you must be WfH all week, every week to qualify, or alternatively that WfH must be a contractually given right. This would remove the vast majority of those who had to WfH due to the pandemic.

Faithtrusts · 12/02/2022 23:41

That's rubbish if it is. It's not massive amount of money I know, but my job has made us permanent home workers and it's a small help to the massive increase in utility bills.

Quite difficult and expensive to administer surely?

You'd probably have to submit proof/evidence with your tax return...and the vast majority wouldn't have it. Job done for the government in one swift move.

WhatsitWiggle · 13/02/2022 12:58

I expect it to return to how it was before, so if your job is home based, ie there is no office option, then you can apply. If there is an office, even if it's not mandatory to attend every day, then you can't apply as you are choosing to work from home.

Teeturtle · 13/02/2022 21:12

The tax relief was only available in the past if working from home was a necessity (which was generally not the case for employees). During the pandemic, the government wanted people to work at home, hence it was introduced more widely. Now the government has no such opinion on work from home so it has reverted to the previous rules.
