and now have 4 weeks to find myself another one or money issues will become VERY tricky.....but I DH and I discussed it and we agreed that some jobs just aren't worth the (crap) money that you earn from them.....

Have to say though it feels FABULOUS knowing that I don't ever have to go back there and be treated like scum again.......but scary knowing I HAVE to find a job..........

You have done the right thing then so well done! If needs be you could probably get temporary work until you can find permanent. Good luck!

TheIceQueen · 01/01/2008 13:29

I hope so - problem is finding work that fits round the hours we need.......unless I go back to work and work full time hours I'm never going to earn enough to pay childcare (even with Tax Credits and stuff taken into account) AND pay the bills which I pay.....so I need to find a part time job that finished no later than about 12pm........eeeek

Well done for making the decision to leave your job... it can be hard to make that decision, when you know the job is terrible but the little money it pays you need. In 2004 I left a job working for the government, and it was such a relief once I had handed in my notice. I didn't have plans for what to do next - I just knew I was wasting my time working where I was. I ended up temping for a while... that may be an option for you, while you hunt for something permanent.

Yes - I'm hoping something comes up - very daunting knowing that if I'm not working by the start of February then most of the bills at the end of February won't get paid ! (either that or we'll go hungry LOL).

Playgroup leader?
Cleaning?

If you are who I think you are - you're a musical sort, no? Would you start your own children's music group?

What about home carer - I did this for a bit. It mostly involved going to see elderly folks and helping them get up, washed and dressed.

Well done on leaving crappy job - I know that feeling too. Deep joy and terror of being broke!

TheIceQueen · 01/01/2008 19:00

Can't really do home carer as I don't drive....and most in this area involve going out to local villages too...

I'm looking at some cleaning jobs - infact at the same time as I went out to drop my resignation letter off (my hand ) - I posted an application form for a school cleaner job at the local private school.....20hrs a week, 40 weeks a year (but paid monthly which is nice for the holidays when I won't be working but will still get paid ), about 30-45 minutes walk away, but if I get it I intend to buy a bicycle and it'll be pretty quick then.......little bit less that I would ideallly like to be paid but otherwise sounds perfect......

whats were you doing icequeen?

TheIceQueen · 02/01/2008 11:35

I was a care assistant - working nights - loved the actual work, coped ok with the hours (3 9 1/2hr shifts a week - occasional extra nights) but was treated like sh*t by management......

hope you get something else!

TheIceQueen · 03/01/2008 15:29

Ice Queen I've just applied for a night care assistant job but have thrown the advert away (doh!) after sending the application - do you get paid more for nights? I only want to work 3 nights a week as I'm doing nurses training. I've never worked in a care home or done any care work.

Local home so am hoping the people are nice.....

TheIceQueen · 03/01/2008 15:43

I didn't get paid more for doing nights - I was paid £5.50hr (when I started) - was supposed to go up to £5.70 after I'd finished my probation but it never did .......which was exactly the same rate as the day carers were on.

However, it was a private - and I think NHS (and indeed most private ones) pay more for nights,

thats dreadful money, QOQ, you should have got a shift allowance on top, NHS or Private you should be given extra for working nights, I'm not suprised you left.
Good luck with finding a new job
