Sold myself short on salary expectations question..

I have just been through the interview process for a new job (after almost 20 years in my current role). I await hearing the outcome, but I am feeling positive.

I was pressed to email them my salary expectations. I resisted but couldn't avoid it, so I did some research and gave a range. I now think that I sold myself short Confused. Can I recover from this if I have?

There is very little information out there on salaries for what is a specialist role, and I know that I have greater experience in this role than almost everyone else who might apply. (I know that sounds arrogant, but the role is very specific). I think their decision will come down to whether or not I am a good fit for their team of people, and money.

Yesterday I spoke with a recruitment agent to get an idea of the current market - salaries in this sector are increasing dramatically this year it seems. I think I have pitched too low by around 20%.

How do I recover from this if they make me an offer? I am so out of practice with the job market! Any experiences to share, or advice?
