Help me ‘detach’ myself

Hello Mumsnetters,

Currently working my notice and can’t seem to detach myself during the notice period. Still getting stuck in and caught up in matters that in reality are insignificant to myself as I won’t be there.

It’s definitely the right decision to move jobs, (and my new role is better in several ways) and don’t understand why I can’t detach myself from a job where I know deep down I’m not valued (it’s all lip service) and in some aspects have been treated poorly (really poorly!) on a occasions by both colleagues and the business.

Any tips to help me see the bigger picture, to get a life and make the most of this time for a better work life balance before I start my new job after many years of giving it my all and compromising other areas of my life will be greatly appreciated.

TIA

I'm in exactly the same position, and its been torture. Thankfully, I'm leaving on Friday, so only a couple of days left. My current manager wasn't very happy about me leaving, and so was trying to pile work onto me, and get me involved in tasks that I wouldn't be able to see through to the end. I pushed back, and basically told her no, that I had other things to wind up and hand over, and that I wasn't taking on anything I couldn't complete as it wouldn't be fair on the person having to take over. She didn't like it, but she did back off. I think at this point, you just need to keep telling yourself, it's not your problem anymore, and you only have a few days/weeks left, and learn to say no, and push back where needed.

Concentrate on thinking about the new job. That will automatically detach you from the old one.
Think about the commute, the people, what lunch you'll take, what you'll wear, what will be the same and what will be different. You'll feel your attachment to the old job slip away!
