Training a new team member - grade above

Our team has a new member and they are one grade above me. I've now been asked to set aside time to train new member on some of the team tasks. I get that they will have to know how to do these things, but I just feel it should be one of their peers at same grade or above who do the training/shadowing? I put myself forward for a lot in the team as development opportunities and to be a good team player. But being asked to train someone who will then line manage me is just feeling a bit off? Is this normal, am I overthinking it?

I didn't apply for the role myself as I've not been in this job very long and wanted to gain more experience at my level before thinking about advancement.

You're overthinking it. You're being asked to show them the technical aspects of the job, not the line management aspects. This is an opportunity to show management that you're capable in your role.

I am pretty senior in my job and when I joined the Kickstarter apprentice person showed me how to use The CRM and a couple of other things

I think you do need to show them how to do certain aspects, to welcome them in and help them get settled. That's how you would want it, if you were new to a role?
