Notice period

Hi I wonder if anyone can help, I have decided to leave my job on March 11th. I only have to give a weeks notice at the moment , but I want to give notice by the end of the week. Could my employers refuse my longer notice period and finish me within the weeks notice timeframe?
The reason I ask is obviously I would like an extra months wages, but I have a micro managing manager who is making my life a misery and wants me to go for some unnecessary training with an equal colleague 30 miles away which is making me feel very inadequate and undermined. If I could give notice there’s no point to me being shipped off on 60 mile for two day trip.
There’s obviously a lot more going on that has made up my mind to leave but I don’t want to go into for identification reasons.
Thanks in advance.

Give notice and specify your last day of employment. That would be fine.

@VanGoghsDog Hi, thankyou! 😊

How long have you worked there? I only ask because if it's less than two years then potentially they could be dicks and give you notice before your notice for any/no reason.

I think that if your contract says a weeks notice then they could give you a weeks notice and end your employment early. It would be really mean of them. I would just give notice a week before you leave if thats your contract terms if you are worried they might do this.

@Viviennemary @TibetanTerrah
Hi, still in probation, this is why I asked for fear of them being dicks if they can get away with it. I was only wanting to give it early to avoid going on this ridiculous so called training, which isn’t training, it’s to follow a colleague who is “ aggressive “ that’s not my personality…… none of my other colleagues along with myself can make any sense of it , it’s all very vague and causing me a lot of stress. I’m feeling like it’s constructive dismissal anyway 😨

If you’re still in probation period then don’t give notice until 4th March. But speak to your manager about the training. Explain you don’t want to go, it’s making you anxious etc.

If your employer isn’t particularly satisfied with your performance they could legitimately ask you to leave after the one week

@StarsAreWishes Thankyou, I already have spoke about it and been off with stress for a couple of weeks, just got back, she knows how anxious it’s making me feel but won’t back down.

If you handed in your notice now, I would think there is a very good chance you would be told to go now (I mean with the weeks notice).
