Sick leave and resigning.

I started a job just shy of 3 weeks ago(yes I know not hugely long), but the job I got was not what was actually advertised in the end (I was sold an entirely different job to what I went into and what can only be described as hell).
It’s a lot more taxing than it lead on to be and it’s had a huge impact on my mental health.
I was suppose to have a work partner to show me the ropes but never did, was suppose to be given certain training and they didn’t bother and when I was suppose to have a login in for the work i had to chase it up every day for 2 weeks, then got told I needed to complete the work over the weekend for the deadline that was due on Monday even though if they’d of given me it 2 weeks before I could of taken my time to complete it rather than rushing over a busy weekend that was planned weeks before this happened! The place is understaffed too (something I didn’t know until i took on the role) and it’s just a shit show of unorganised mess .
For me the mix of poor management, and zero support plus coping with my own mental health, the long hours and raising my children is just too much for me and has had an awful affect on me to the point where my depression has spiralled to a real low and I’m in that stage of not leaving the house again or wanting to be near anyone. The thought of going back is making my mental health worse and from what I’ve seen the workplace isn’t going to get any better and I really do not think it’s worth more than my mental health and being a happy, healthy mum.

I’ve spoken to my doctor who has told me that I need to be signed off for the next 4 weeks, during this time can I hand in my resignation with immediate affect?

Also do I need to tell my manager over the phone that I’ll be resigning or do I just send in my resignation and go from there (baring in mind I’m on sick leave so won’t be going into work at all for the next few weeks).

I expect they would let you go with immediate effect. It would be polite to speak over the phone but this is up to you.

If your notice period is less than your sick line covers then just hand in your notice as normal. You'll still be off work but if they decide to terminate your employment with immediate effect they'll have to pay you in lieu of notice whereas they don't if you hand notice in with immediate effect.
