PAYE overpayments - getting annoyed now!

PAYE, part-time. Work had overpaid me for 3 out of the last 4 months 🙄 I’ve just checked my bank and payslip for yesterday’s payday and they’ve done it again 🙄 at what point does this stop becoming my issue?!

It’s becoming very frustrating. Each time it’s happened I’ve had to go out of my way to send copies of time sheets and our branch wage return to payroll and wait for them to figure it out then there’s deductions on my next pay etc. We’re in the process of house hunting and will be applying for mortgages etc. My pay shouldn’t really vary a huge amount as I work set days and hours and over the last 4 months it varies by up to £430!!

Twice has been due to the branch manager adding up wrong on the wage return (but then it’s obviously not being checked at payroll either) and once was due to a keying in error at payroll. This month I’ve been overpaid by an entire week 🙄 no idea what’s gone on yet! Obviously mistakes happen - I make plenty myself, but surely these things should be getting double checked? That’s now 4 out of 5 months that I’ve had wrong wages!

I'd be tempted to stop pointing it out, but to keep the overpayment aside so if they ever realise their error it's sitting there to be repaid.

@sadmad Yeah, my DH is of the opinion that I’ve pointed out errors enough to make them realise it should be being double checked so it’s all free money from now on 🙄🤣🤣 but I’d be quick enough to point out if i was underpaid 🤣 plus, it’s not my money so it doesn’t feel right keeping it.
It’s more annoying because we’re going to be applying for mortgages probably within the next month or so (fingers crossed 😬🤞🏼) and it’s making my income look all over the place!

In this situation I would write a polite email to the payroll manager. Advise them of each of the errors with copies of payslips. Explain the repeated payroll errors are creating extra work for you and that the incorrect pay slips are impacting on your ability to get a mortgage. You are also concerned whether or not HMRC hold correct NI and Tax records for you. Finally, State you are also becoming anxious as payday approaches as you don’t know if your pay will be correct. You would appreciate it if someone could ensure you receive the correct pay and payslips going forward.

If it happens again, write again along the same lines but copy into Head of HR and point out x months of incorrect pay and payslips would suggest a compliance issue and how are they addressing this.

I wouldn’t keep quiet, you will eventually get found out and you’ll have to pay it back. I work in payroll and Just done one for an employee who kept schtum about an allowance that should have, went back 5 years - they have to pay it all back. Our payroll is all double checked, so we check manual sheets, enter and then double checked by another member of the team, we still make mistakes but we do make a bit of the em person and try and ensure it doesn’t happen again

Sorry that should read an allowance he wasn’t entitled too

Honestly after 4 months Id keep quiet and agree with PP to keep the overpaid amount just incase it ever gets flagged.
Several years ago I did jury service and work paid me even though they shouldnt have done as I was paid by the court.....month after month went by and despite me telling my manager it never got recalled. They also gave me an extra 2 days holiday that I wasnt entitled to, as I didnt take them i got paid for them at the end of the holiday year. After a few years I got fed up of flagging that up aswell 🙈🙈. Ive left now and my (old) employer never asked for that money back.
