Banding question for NHS workers

Hello, can anyone tell me what the difference between a band 2 and 3 is? Looking at some jobs to ask some questions about my banding but can’t really see the difference, is it whether you work with less guidance? Thanks.

I think it's all a bit hit and miss. I am looking at support worker roles in the NHS. In my local trusts they are band 3 but exactly the same role in neighboring counties are band 4's. Doesn't make sense at all. Some HCA's are band 2, but the more senior ones/ working alone more are band 3.

I was told it's the post that is banded, not the post holder.
So if people decide to work over and above their remit, that's up to them.
However it sounds like you've had extra responsibilities and duties given to you, which is quite different.

Your union should be advising you about this - that's their role.
Is there an official route for staff to raise banding queries where you work? Ours was always via HR, and a named HR rep dealt with appeals.

Hopefully you'll have evidence of all the extra work you've been asked to do as a basis for going forwards.

@FawnDrench you sound as dismissive as my line manager.

If you are working above your job description you should speak with HR and /or your union about the role being reviewed for potential re-banding. If they don’t wish to do this, highlight all the things you will no longer be doing as you stick to your job description.

Same here Band 3, trained up the band 5 (was offered it but didn't want the 'full' responsibility. A lot of the work I am left to do on my own initiative and I do a hell of a lot, but they won't put me up to a 4. Also covered when the 5 went on sick 4 months out of the 12 months in total until they could get another or 2/3 in to support (again trained these up to) some trusts are just takin the Mickey really.
