Feeling bad letting employers down.

I walked out a job I loved a week or so ago. Panicked and applied for lots of jobs. Now at that situation where I have accepted a job but then get offered something better, so need to let first employer down. I just feel so bad. Then just as I got offered one this morning, my absolute dream job gets advertised - I went for it a couple of years ago and did well in the interview but didn't quite meet all the essential criteria and they told me to apply again when a certain person retired which is now. Please tell me employers are used to dealing with people accepting offers then dropping out. I feel like I am just messing everyone about at the moment.

It's better you drop out before you actually start than starting and leaving a week later.
Just explain another opportunity has come up that you can't turn down.

It's a business transaction, not a family.

I'm in the same boat. I have to turn down 1 of 2 job offers I got end of December but 1 of these they would only put start date as TBC and actually told me it was a non remote job during interview and when contract come through it actually states remote where the Employer has decided in future they will want to open it up as recruiting nationwide, it has ended up being a mess the DBS checking company managed to also lose my application... him up there must have been making things happen for a reason! - I ended up in what actually was my 2nd choice which I can't imagine now leaving and I really thought I'd start what was 1st choice job soonest but it turned out it wasn't the case at all.

I would certainly have kicked myself if I'd said no to 2nd job.

Good that things worked out well for you in the end. I had already started the DBS check ( NHS ) for the job I'm now turning down, so I guess that will cost them money but I guess it happens a lot. It just all seems messy.
