Civil Service interview and pre employment checks

Hello!
I have managed to get an interview for a civil service position next week and have some major anxiety about it, would be great to get some advice around the topic.
It's not necessarily about the interview itself as I see there are already a few threads with some great tips on here which helped with my application!
I am currently employed full time and get on well with my current boss, but my workplace is incredible toxic. For many reasons, multiple staff members don't even make a year's employment, and many staff have had burnout or mental health issues for which minimal support is offered. The owner of my workplace is very litigious so no one dares speak out or raise issues, they just leave ASAP. The owner recently believed a previous employee left a (professionally worded, and anonymous!) review on a job site and has threatened them with legal action. This is why I don't want to say what industry I'm currently in or the department I'm applying for in the civil service!

Do you have a question?

Monstermunch77 · 25/01/2022 14:17

Ah sorry, sausage fingers from the cold, hit post before I finished typing! Yes, I am wondering what is covered in the l
Pre employment checks? Written warnings are handed out like sweeties in the industry I am currently in, and I would like to know if these are specifically asked about in the pre employment checks? There are actually 4 of us with civil service interviews all on final written warnings. None of the warnings are relating to personal conduct, finance issues etc, just minor mistakes over handled by our employer.
It is common in the industry we work in,and I would say 30% of staff members are on written warnings, often straight to final, which stays on file for 12 months.
This would obviously be very frustrating if we are successful getting a job offer and stuffed at the last minute due to being asked about disiplinary records. I applied anyway as the job looked fantastic and thought if nothing else, good application and interview experience, but I am now worrying about whether I should not get my hopes up. Any advice would be appreciated, and apologies for having to be cryptic!

I'm going through pre-employment checks for the civil service at the moment, but it depends on your role which checks they do. For mine, it's a DBS disclosure, internal fraud check and employment references for the ladt 3 years. They won't be able to check if you have had any warnings unless your current employer discloses this during referencing which it sounds like they might do just to be spiteful.

Ah that's great, thank you. I don't belive it's the type of role to need anything other than basic checks, I was just wondering. I would obviously be honest and discuss if it was asked. I do get on well with my immediate line managers, who would be the actual referees, so I am hoping they would not be spiteful and not mention it unless specifically asked, as they generally are as supportive as upper management allows them to be, and are fully aware of the issues within the company and industry in general. Its just sods law the job came up now and not in a few months when the disiplinary expires, so thought it was worth a try, even if it's just for the practice. I was quite happy to be offered an interview tbh, as it was my first civil service application attempt, and they seem to have a knack to them, so at least I know I'm heading along the right lines. Fingers crossed for the great escape then!

Hi guys. I already work for the cicil service. So i applied for a job a grade higer then me which had a lot of posts. I did a pre-recorded interview a week ago and still haven't heard anything back. The job portal still says interview slot booked so it's not been updated yet. Anyone know how long it can take? I hate waiting!

How long did it take for you to pass the pre employment checks until you got a start date?
