If you are an ENFP and/or 'Yellow' personality type what is your job?

Every time I’ve done a Myers-Briggs test I come out as ENFP (Extraverted, Intuitive, Feeling, Prospecting) and the accompanying analysis always rings really true. I have also done the colour one (not sure what it’s called?) and I was a Yellow predominantly, followed by red, green and finally blue. I know that I have really strong relational, influencing and horizon scanning skills and I’m also a creative problem solver. My key issue is that I’m rubbish at then following through with the business as usual once the initial excitement of a new project or initiative has worn off.

I work in public sector corporate governance, which on the face of it is a ridiculous job for someone like me who is so allergic to detail, process and routine, but has actually worked reasonably well as (a) I add value in terms of leadership/people development, networking and creativity which are skills which are sometimes less common in this field and (b) I see governance through a people lens, and people engagement and buy-in is something that is often overlooked but sorely needed for governance frameworks to work effectively. I have also always enjoyed working at the ‘centre’ of an organisation and can satisfy my natural curiosity by getting a high-level overview of everything that’s going on, eg by being in Board meetings, working closely with CEO and Chair etc.

However, there is also by necessity a fair bit of routine and process and I really struggle with this – I can force myself to do it, but I find it incredibly draining and lose all motivation. Predictably, every couple of years I get itchy feet and start to think about what it is I ‘should’ be doing with my life and what sort of job would allow me to be ‘my most authentic self’ (sorry!).

So I’m really interested to know, what do others who are an ENFP or Yellow personality type do for a living? And/or how do you navigate the world of work if you struggle with detail, routine and process? I feel like I see quite a lot of threads about the opposite personality type fitting in and struggling with office culture etc, but not so much about those of us who find it hard to deal with everything now being via MS Teams and the consequent reduction in opportunities for networking, soft intelligence gathering and collaboration!

ENFP here ! My work is very people-based, involves a lot of meetings and a lot of writing. There’s usually a lot of variety (or type of meeting, location, topic etc) but with covid this has really reduced and become quite repetitive. I am only starting to realise how much remote working doesn’t suit my personality type. I’m probably what I’d call a sociable introvert - so like being with others but also need my alone time to recharge etc. Being alone all the time working from home is not good for me.
I’d never thought about not being good at detail, perhaps I’ve trained myself to be better at that. I’m quite into the details, although I tend to get over excited about new projects and expect too much in a short space of time. I’m fairly shy too but have learnt to come out of my shell. I don’t really like being in a group/clique and realise I tend to have lots of 1 to 1 conversations instead.

Hello fellow ENFP! Variety is indeed the spice of life and I really miss the opportunities I had to travel (albeit UK only) in a previous role.

I also quite enjoy writing, even though that's often a fairly solitary exercise. And I know what you mean about needing to recharge - I think I'm much less extrovert at home and often find myself trying to get out of social stuff (particularly 1:1 - I find group socialising much easier generally), even though I usually enjoy it once I'm there.

Not me personally, but I work in marketing and I am surrounded by these personality types! In fact our CMO is practically off the scale yellow.

ENFP - work in tech sales.. lead large teams so let them do the detail and completion of ideas I come up with so I spend most of my time ideating, coaching and collaborating ..

Not me but the yellow person in our office does project development involving lots of meetings with a wide range of people and writing up and developing ideas proposals. Other people then deliver the project.

They are well respected in their area of expertise and do have an eye for detail (so maybe not ENFP?).

INFP here and work in higher education.
For a while was in charge of equality and social responsibility which suited me down to the ground - I could have the big ideas and get other people to do the follow-through!

I can't remember my exact one but it was very similar. I'm a marketing director. Probably lots of us with that type!

Was just coming on to say project type stuff or look into product management or product owner type roles where you’re involved in designing services and systems and then moving on to the next thing
