...about nannies. Are they always live-in? If not, is is possible to employ them for only 2/3 days a week?

Are they VERY expensive?

And finally, is there any alternative to someone qualified coming to your home to look after you child?

Tx

Eggy, haven't employed a nanny but no, they're not always live-in. You might be able to get a part time one if you nanny shared or found a nanny who only wanted part time. The alternatives are a registered childminder (looks after children in her home) or a daycare centre/nursery. From what I know, childminders are usually the cheapest but it depends on where you live. Yes, nannies and nurseries are usually very expensive! And IIRC, you cannot ask someone unqualified to look after your child unless it is a family arrangement but I'm sure someone else will know more about the law on this. That's not to say you can't ask your mum but I think when money comes into it, there is legislation to consider.

The live out daily Nanny rate in London is currently around £60-70 net for a 10 hour day.
