Part time working request following may leave

Has anyone got any advice/experience of requesting a part time role after mat leave or tips as what to say.

My role is full time and not really possible to do part time, I will still ask and also open to part time roles in other departments.

I have been with my company for 10 years and would love to stay rather than leave and get a job elsewhere.

I have a meeting on Monday to discuss and want to be prepared as possible.

Not due back until May.

Try to be prepared in telling your company how it would be of advantage to them rather than you

Focus in your request on how the role could plausibly be done part time and how any negative impacts could be reasonably mitigated. Don't go on about how much you want PT or how much it would help you - the criteria it should be decided on is impact on the business, and unless you're in very good standing and/or extremely hard to replace, they honestly don't need to care that much about how much you would like PT.

Good luck.

^^ Definitely this.

Do you manage staff? As PP how do you plan to mitigate again going PT.

Do you / your employer have a preference for the days / times you work?

Is your post suitable for a job share? If so, say you would help in the recruitment/training.

My DC were a fairly flexible nursery and was able to say to work would be able to swap days / attend training etc with advance notice.

Is there another role in the company that could be part time that you could transfer to if they don't grant your request?

Thank you all.

I will definitely try and include reasons how it could benefit my employer too.

It's a bit of a tough one because I am CEV I was shielding and wfh before I went on mat leave but it did mean someone had to be put in to cover me physically as the role does require a physical presence. I'm fully prepared that I can't do my role part time and they will say no to that but worth asking.

I manage 2 people but we were recruiting for those positions before I left so have no idea of their capabilities and if they'd be able to deputise in my absence. If they could I'd be happy to be on call for emergencies.

Work was really quiet before I left, I manage an office building so sadly lots of companies left due to their businesses collapsing due to COVID. I have no idea what's going on now so I think I need to catch up and see how business is at the moment and what our company strategy is.

I've asked a colleague to let me know if part time roles come up elsewhere in the business.

Luckily I have a lot of business knowledge and understand the workings of our other departments so I could do part time in another section. Our head office staff can work more flexibly than us on site so to speak.

You need to tell them how you could do your role PT and how it would work for the company. Be prepared though that you will end up doing the same job in (on paper) less hours and less money!
