Avg monthly salary for weekend shop/supermarket work

I'm due to go back to work in may from mat leave. We have a 3mnth and 18month old and I'm trying to figure out all my options as we can't afford nursery full time for both.

One of the options is for me to stay at home during the week with them and get a part time weekend job in a supermarket or something like that.

Is anybody able to tell me roughly what they earn monthly if they work similar hours in that kind of role?

Thank you

You’re best to think of it hourly as that’s how it would be calculated.

Assuming £9.50 min wage, 16 hours a week is £608 a month plus any benefits you get. No tax as below the thresholds.

Couldn't your DH/DP adjust their working hours to fit in with yours? A happy medium. Where will you fit in family time if you work weekends?

He can wfh 1-2 days a week but that's about it. I will ask to go back to my job part time first and see what they say. Hopefully it will be a yes and we can get a childminder a few days a week.

We realise it's going to be hard until the eldest gets free childcare hours when he's 3.

Good way to look at it, thank you!

As above it's best to work it our hourly.

I will say though with Supermarket work is it can be variable (if you wanted it to be)

When I worked there during the first lockdown I tried to get as many hours as I possibly could and often did 50 hours a week.. Some of my colleagues only did their contracted (for me it was 11 hours contracted) and didn't have to do overtime

If you do want the overtime just be prepared for the quieter periods as there was times there simply wasn't any and it really affects your wages if you usually do 40-50 hours then have a week or two at 15.

Thank you! There will definitely be times I could do extra hours so this sounds ideal.
