NHS to Local Authority

I am currently band 6 in the NHS. I've been looking for something else due to unsustainable work load and burn out. I've found a job with a Local Authority in my field of practice with a similar salary. The problem is that its a 3 year fixed term contract. I could theoretically return to my old job at the end of the contract but I'm wondering about the implications for my pension. I also have enhanced annual leave currently so would lose that too. I am due to move up a pay point in around 22 months so would lose that increase in pay too. Would I be mad to leave my NHS job now for a 3 year fixed term contract with a Local Authority? The job I'm considering sounds like a good match for me, and is more focused on my interests, but I'm just not sure it makes sense to apply.

I’ve never worked in the public sector so I can’t comment on any of that, but I always work on the premise there’s no decision to made until an offer is on the table, so, if it’s of interest, it’s always worth throwing your hat in to the ring.

Would your trust let you take it as a secondment?
I don't know what area you are in but my NHS dept expect to merge with the same SS dept in the next few years and this has already happened in many areas. Working across the 2 organisations or secondments would be considered a good thing

Good point, @FrogsHiccups. You're right - no point anguished over something that might not happen.

Thank you, @RepentBirthingPersonFucker
It doesn't mention secondment but worth asking of I'm invited to interview.

If you have less than a 5 year break from the NHS (I had 4.5 out to work in the charitable sector) you go back in on same level and spinal point. Your pension can be moved across to local authority and back again as they a mutual funds. I did nt I just had a private one for a few years frozen mmy NHS onee then restarted it on my return as I wasn't local authority. So go try it you can always come back!

Same annual leave that should say!
