Civil service pre-employment check breakdown:

7 replies

Hello, everyone, it is my first time on thread like this so apology if I make any mistakes.

I really need help/advice. I applied for a civil service job at AA grade for the department of Ministry of justice, which is based in Leicestershire.

Thankfully, they called me for an interview, and I got the provisional offer as well. I have filled out the forms for pre-employment checks and I had to provide them with 5 years' history.

The reason I am making this thread is because I am worried, I had a few jobs in past, that I have broken them into 8 sections including when I was studying. Like I said, I was studying

So never had one fixed job. Whenever I see an opportunity, I would do it part-time or in summer breaks. I do not know now if they are going to feel like something is dodgy or inappropriate.

@Concern number -2

They gave an option to fill out- if I had any fixed penalties or anything small like that: unfortunately, 😞😥, I do have 3 points on my driving license, for which I paid fees and took 3 points.

I don’t know if it’s the conviction they are going to take seriously. I am so worried please if anyone can suggest. I am like proper stress.

Many thanks

Presumably you declared your previous work history on your application?

Pre employment screening is essentially to check that you’re not a convicted criminal/in some instances don’t have a lot of debt (i.e. if you were in a job with financial responsibility,) for CRB purposes.

It’s impossible to say whether a driving conviction would be taken into account but I would say it’s unlikely.

Honestly, they aren’t going to care at all that you’ve got points on your licence, please don’t worry about that at all!
With the employment history, that’s really unlikely to be an issue as well, it’s only so they can see what you have been doing and maybe approach a previous employer for references. If you were working around studying that’s probably a positive thing!

Tee20x · 22/12/2021 11:26

They won't care about the points on the licence. Employment/address history while studying can be annoying to write out. I was in the same boat as you & the vetting officer in my case phoned me to discuss it so that I could clarify some things & all was well.

Congrats on the job offer! Is it employment history they're after or residential history? Obviously be honest, they're not there to be judgemental, it's a basic security check as others have said.

MrsSquirrel · 22/12/2021 11:27

Congratulations on the job offer.

You have to be honest on the form. If you hide something and it comes out later, you would lose the job.

None of those things sound like they would be issues for an AA role. You should be fine.

Morning @princessss0786 - we've now moved your thread to Employment Issues and we hope you get lots of useful advice here.

Good luck with the job application. Flowers

Thank you everyone for the suggestions, I appreciated it more than anything. true say- I got to be honest in case they find out something in future.
But I have stated everything in the form and nothing that I tried to hide

@AlternativePerspective

Yes, I have declared every position that I held in the past, including the time spent in education.

@Cocorico22
Thank you! And yes, they asked me to fill out the 5 years employment history as well as 5 years residential history.
