Hi everyone,

I am at a stage in my life and (10000% first world problems) where I have an opportunity to get promoted to a senior role AND I have an 18 month old and a 3 year old.

Being a mum, and an emotionally present one at that is my priority!! And also not creating too much complexity in my life as life with little humans is chaotic enough!! But wonderful at the same time 😅🤣

I'm super interested to hear from other mums who have older kids now and if they did go for career progression while sprogs were younger was there any regrets?? I think I know the answer myself but would like to hear other perspectives.

My mum was a SAHM and I am so close to her and I guess I worry working in a more senior role will take up too much headspace? Not be the main caregiver?? But I know I do need to work and have some adult time is important for my wellbeing/sanity too!!

Thanks to anyone who responds xx

Yes, yes I did. Seniority often also means more flexibility, not less. It's not really working hours as such that are challenging when you have young kids, it's clocking in and out and not being able to fit your work around your family. The more senior you are, the easier it is to ask for what you want.
Plus, more money never hurts, you can hire help and outsource boring chores.

This. Had occasional regrets but in the main it's brought far more flexibility and tolerance to be more senior and I can influence how much flexibility can be given to more junior staff which is a lovely bonus.

Depends on the job. Senior medical doesn't always translate to more flexible working hours. WFH doesn't exist for the most part.

I would do it. Make sure you are around for the stuff that matters and don't focus on the daily grind
