How much interview prep?

How much do you do??

It doesn't matter how well prepared I am, I never feel well prepared.

It's tomorrow morning and I've spent most of today working on my presentation (10 min PowerPoint) and refining all my competency based responses... but the week ran away with me so this is all I've done.

How much do you do?? What makes you feel well prepared?

I like to have a cue card with what each letter of 'star' stands for, so I don't forget to structure my answers.

Yes I have my crib sheets largely laid out like this but good idea to mark STAR out next to the relevant bits - good idea thank you!!

I think it depends often which way the questions fall. In my organisation the interviews are all the same format- either competency or expertise in role. Sometimes the wording is odd and I can’t decide what answer they are looking for.

The first job I got i’d been to a fair few interviews previously. I’d got a bit disheartened so read through the jd and a few bits, but then the questions fell right and all the prep I’d done for the other interviews paid off. Same with my most recent, been to a load of interviews and not quite nailed it, did more job related prep on this one but the competency questions fell right and I was able to link it all together.

I think key is just keep going for interviews, the practice and experience makes a bigger difference than all the prep.

Thanks @Nomoreusernames1244 - I agree, regular interviews are the best prep you can do, but this is for a promotion and they don't come up very often! I think I'm the wild card too - urgh, hate interviews!!

I use those interview preparation books. You can find them online or in the local library etc.

Keep at it. I love to make notes using different colored pens to help me remember what not to say. And also you can practice your interview technique with friends beforehand in advance as well, and obtain feedback.
