child minding

I’m reluctant to go back to work and leave my son, but I would like to be able to have holidays ect which would take a while to save for if it is just my partner working.

I’m considering a part time job which the company has aimed at stay at home mums, 3 hours a day, which I would do during his naps/when my partner is home, but it’s obviously not a lot of money.

The main point of this post is that it’s been suggested by a few friends/family members that i start child minding so i can keep him with me but earn a decent wage. I’m qualified and experienced in childcare and would enjoy it, but have any of you child minded whilst also taking care of your own little one? thank you.

I’ve not done this but as a mum I’m not sure I’d pick a childminder who has their own very young child to look after as I’d be concerned he would take up the lion’s share of you attention.

Many, if not most, childminders start when they have their own young children.

Seeing as you are already experienced and qualified, I'd say go for it.
But it's not great money, to be honest.

A friend of mine childminds and whilst she brings in an income, the main benefit is not needing to pay for your own childcare.

There seems to be a fair bit of paperwork (taxes, ofsted prep, keeping eyfs reports etc).

My childminder must be making £600 a week easy

Childminder here.
You will only be able to have two more under 5's alongside your own little one but you could have older children too. Although that can be very tricky to manage if you have a young child.
I had worked in early years for ten years before starting minding and it's a completely different role.
I only keep about half of what I make in fees after deductables.

It was 10 years ago that I stopped childminding. But my final years take home pay, for full time hours, was around 9k.

Full.time hours being 730 am to 6pm.
