Hi - I’m fed up with working in admin .

I left a career in media to have kids , returned to work when my circs changed and now I am stuck in my stopgap admin job. It’s most so boring and also stressful’

I really want a change, any suggestions? I can’t return to original career due to geography .

Thanks!!

There's quite a few interesting projects running at our local authority - maybe have a look at yours? Also a few grant giving agencies are ramping up for covid recovery and doing a lot in rural communities, they may need project staff. I'm in a similar position, geography used to be so limiting but I have found new freelance work via old london contacts and suddenly it doesn't really matter that I'm not in London any more. Wishing you luck!

Social media assistant / content producer - lots of demand for video skills and PT could pay what you need.

Could you be an Executive Assistant? It would use your admin experience and pay is in the £30ks around where I am at least.

cruffin · 19/11/2021 07:48

@Antonia2021 great. I highly recommend it, very flexible and lots of annual leave!

oscarcat99 · 19/11/2021 07:48

Second the comments about uni admin - there are always jobs going and if you don't like the one you start in it's really common to make a sideways move (and internal candidates usually get a leg up at shortlisting phase).

Florabelle · 19/11/2021 07:51

Recruitment? Maybe Media or Digital/Tech recruitment. With the right company it can be varied and interesting. If you start as a researcher/resourcer you can easily earn more £20k + as a basic anywhere in UK and realistically in 1st year you should earn c£30k with bonus. You need to be organised, have good people skills and a genuine interest in whichever field you work in - tech/media/renewables etc. PM me with area you live if you want company recommendations.

If you’d like Nursing what about a Ward Administrator in a hospital?

WildStallyn · 19/11/2021 08:40

Receptionist? My mum works on reception in a hospital and loves it, she had no related experience prior to getting that job.

You mentioned you live in a touristy area. I appreciate a lot of the related work is probably seasonal but is there anything in that you'd fancy doing? Working in a in a hotel or attraction? Organising/assisting with outdoor activities?

gogohm · 19/11/2021 08:44

Drs reception? Working for town council? Daytime hospitality? Retail? All currently hiring in my small town

NerdyBird · 19/11/2021 09:37

content producer/editor for a website or training company? I work for an academic publisher and we have roles where people are making all sorts of online content.

wizzywig · 19/11/2021 09:40

DeadCertain · 19/11/2021 18:18

If you don’t want to go back to editing* I think something like this would be good - they are very valuable skills you have.

What bit of the UK are you in

*you could earn some serious dosh though..

You could work in fundraising or events for charity - if you’re good you could quickly earn more than that - and wonderful to work for a good cause! And often lovely people too and varied days getting involved in all the charity work.
