Sickness absence - new job offer - panicking

Could anyone working in HR help me?

I have received a job offer which I have decided to accept and it's pending reference checks. I have handed in my notice on Monday and gave the new employer my line manager's details.

My line manager messaged me this morning to say that the new employer asked for sickness record, which she has provided. But she wanted me to be aware.

My worry is that I have had 20 days off sick (4 weeks). This was only one instance. It was stress related, I had a panic attack and other issues, my doctor wanted me to take time off and I did. I interviewed for the new job while I was off sick. I had applied well before I went off, but the interviews were conducted while I was off sick. Obviously I didn't want to miss the opportunity and I wouldn't have declined the interviews.

I did a phased return to work and now I am back full time and working my notice.

I've not had any other days off in this employment or previous employment. I am not a person who gets sick, I just honestly got to burnout in this job and I had to take time off, look after myself and make a plan to get out of an environment that triggers me.

My question is, in your experience, would you withdraw the job offer for someone who had 1 instance of 20 days off sick?

I have been an exemplary employee and I am quite good at what I do, so I am gutted to think that this would prevent me from getting another job.

I would ask you the circumstances and make a judgement after that.
I'm pretty sure I'd give you a chance, possibly a more 'hands on' probation to support you and make sure things are going OK.
