First job interview since 2000 tomorrow, eek! (Care home bank staff)

So I haven’t worked in a long time (travelled, DC, been very lucky not to have to, etc.). But I’ve been wanting to get back into the workplace for awhile, and hopefully, maybe, retrain in the medical field (although I feel I might be too old!).

Tomorrow I have my first job interview this century 😱

I don’t have a lot of details but am hoping it’s going to work with my life and the DC.

It’s for a bank care assistant role in a large home not too far from me.
I’m hoping the bank element allows me to work as much as I can around certain things like school runs. I’m fortunate in that the wage I bring home isn’t crucial so if I can’t make some shifts that’s ok with me, just hope it’s ok with them.

Any tips??

I have actually interviewed a lot of people of the past few years in my role as a chair of governors, will be weird to be on the other side!

Just show that you are caring, patient, kind, and a hard worker. Examples even if not strictly relevant can be transferred if you are asked scenario questions.

If you are all of those things, then the care world will be for you. It is a tough sector but kindness and compassion go a long way.

Good Luck x

Thank you!

I know I’m a hard worker as I’ve been working my socks off volunteering as loads of roles for a while, but specifically vaccine clinics since January which is what I try and remind myself of when I have a wobble about being able to work again.

I hope I’m patient and kind, but wouldn’t everyone say that about themselves?

What do I even wear? Im thinking what I call my governor clothes as they are smart but not super smart IYKWIM?

I think they’ll bite your hands off. You’re going to need to be assertive about how much you’re prepared to work or you’ll be working 24-7.

LivingInABuildingSite · 15/11/2021 20:01

That is a good point about 24/7. I want to keep some kind of balance, apart from the things I have to do like school runs.
I know I’ll be knackered to start with too as I’m out of practice, even with volunteering.

And I got the job!! 😱

Interview was kind of surreal as loads going on at the same time, but I didn’t completely cock it up and she offered it to me straight away.

Paperwork to sort before I can start.
