I have epilepsy - do I need to declare this on an application form?

I was diagnosed with epilepsy in May. I have had no seizures since I was diagnosed. I believe under the terms of The DDA that epilepsy is categorised as a disability. However, the information I have found on the internet suggests that it is up to me if I declare this to an employer/prospective employer. Is that really the case?

I have epilepsy, I have never 'formally' declared it but I have always let managers know in the past just so they are aware. It is technically considered a disability yes, but I don't particularly consider myself disabled as I don't have fits on a day to day basis and it doesn't have a major impact on my working life. So I personally wouldn't put it on an application form. Unless it was a job as an air traffic controller or something...

Thanks. I have been a SAHM for 6 years and so wasn't employed when I was diagnosed. I'm now thinking of applying for a job as a teaching assistant (nice and local now I can't drive ). It seems wrong not to let them know, but on the other hand I don't want it to prejudice my application. Agree totally that I don't consider myself disabled - though the free bus pass has come in v useful
