New job letter

I have received an offer of employment.

It states salary, number of holidays a year, place of work and hours of work. It's just a very short letter.

It's asked me to confirm acceptance and then asks for a start date.

It's been 11 years since I was in this position.

I'd like to have confirmation that my booked leave will be honoured. 2 weeks at Christmas and 10 days at Easter. Is that reasonable?

Should I still get a contract to sign? At what point to I resign from my current role? Now or when they send me a contract.

Thank you for any help you can give. I hate to say I'm a bit clueless.

I would go back and ask for a contract, and only resign when you have that. Usually it would be sent with the offer letter. You can also ask for an email confirming that they will honour the planned holiday, but that wouldn't be in the contract. Hope that helps.

You should not resign from your current role until you have received, agreed to and signed a contract for your new role.

This also means that you can't give them a start date yet.

I agree with pp you should ask for a contract. Get in back in touch and ask if they can send a contract over. Let them know that you are waiting to receive the contract before resigning from your current role.

With regards to your booked annual leave, again you will need to ask them if they are willing to do this and ask that they confirm this to you in writing or by email.

That sounds pretty usual and a contract is signed on starting (as it will have a date). Have you calculated if you will have sufficient al to cover your holidays, did you ask at interview for those dates?

Thank you.

I’ll ask to see a formal contract. I’ll also state that assuming that’s agreeable then give them a proposed date to work towards and confirm I’ll resign when that’s in order. I’ll ask them to confirm holidays. I did briefly mention them at interview. I have no idea how that leave will fall over their annual leave year. That I assume will become clear when I see the contract.

Thank you all. This is really helpful.
