Ill probably get hate for this but I only want to now why....
I was talking to my friend and my cousin who are similar ages to me. They have only been expected to find work of 16 hours a week. But I have to find 25 hours?
I'm a lone parent with 3 children youngest is 4.

Sorry, who expects you to find 25 hours work?

Alicew00 · 29/10/2021 15:21

If the youngest is school age (with no disabilities) then you will be expected to find work, which is fair enough. I understand the difficulty though of fitting it all in as I am also a lone parent to three. Not sure why they have specified different hours to you but it's definitely worth doing the extra if you can, feels so much better when you've earned that money!!

Maybe ask UC to clarify why?

Alicew00 · 29/10/2021 15:25

Yes definitely I have a job of ten hours now but need to find another 15. I just don't get why they're saying 25 and not 16 like they have to other people who are lone parents my age.

Ah UC! That makes sense now.

Yes, ask them to clarify I think.

Check the actual rules because some work coaches make it up as they go along

Is it possible thst there was a mistake in completing a form when you gave the Date of Birth of your youngest child? It is supposed to be 16 hours if your youngest child is 3 or 4, and 25 hours if your youngest child is between 5 and 12.

Though if your youngest child is going to turn 5 quite soon it might be sensible to seek a position offering 25 hours of work anyway, because it will only be more hassle having to start job hunting again after only a few months if you start a 16 hour a week job and then move into the next bracket shortly afterwards.

It’s not your age that is the deciding factor. It’s your child’s age.

If your youngest child is 4, then you only need to work 16 hours but you will be expected to work 25 from when s/he turns 5.
