I’m a working single mum. I work for a care agency and i love my clients. The company I work for was set up before COVID and had always followed guidance, we were under immense pressure through the pandemic and lots of staff, including myself, had little to no training save for some online modules.

My work has been inspected by the CQC and all that has been pointed out as in need of improvements. I was promoted through the pandemic and had a senior role until recently ( they took the role out the business structure completely), they’ve demoted everyone in my role and given us a pay cut.
Now they are giving is mandatory policies to read (unpaid) and mandatory paid training.
I’ve read some of the policies. It’s taken me an hour to do. We are all on a wage, and I’m just a concerned we are being dragooned into doing things for free to make the company compliant. I’ve never been expected to do reading for work or train for work outside of my working hours.

I’m currently really unhappy in my job role, I’ve always had a good work ethic and enjoyed my job. I just feel like they are taking advantage. It’s mandatory reading to do within a set time frame alongside our work. Just wondering if this is legal? I don’t know if I’m being unreasonable.
