I understand primary patient facing roles you aren’t allowed to wear fabric lanyards due to infection control risk.

Non clinical staff that are allowed to wear lanyards, are they allowed plastic/enamel pins?

Primary patient facing staff can wear lanyards too - our Trust allows it.

Staff are not technically allowed to wear more than one pin (as per the uniform policy) but people do

Most staff wear them, I certainly do. Why do you ask?

RubyFowler · 14/10/2021 17:20

Yes, and some are covered in them.

Our Trust doesn't allow lanyards in clinical areas. Not sure about pins etc but not many staff wear them on the non clinical lanyards (if that makes sense 😂)

Starting a new job working in community, wanted to buy an enamel pin that says I’m double vaccinated as I’m meeting vulnerable families, seems to be mixed messages with policies in different NHS trusts!

I wouldnt wear an unauthorised pin, I would ask advice from infection control.

I got given a lanyard in my current trust (where I started 1 month ago). They're encouraging everyone to wear them as they say your role on them - ie Consultant, Doctor, Nurse, HCA etc.
Its a contrast to my other trusts where they are a strangulation risk or infection control risk.
We're definitely allowed pins - lots of people have a rainbow flag, I have a cartoon badge with my name (my name badge spins around and isn't always facing people or is hidden by an apron, the little badge doesn't spin and is above the apron).
I haven't seen someone with vaccine status on theirs though.

Community patient-facing HCP - I have my NHS official LGBT pin and that’s it.
Ideally you should be, or should very nearly be double vaccinated + booster so a pin with just double vaccinated is kind of behind the times Grin
Staff wear all sorts of pins but too many and you start looking like Rachel Annison in Office Space.

Ah, I never realised there were authorised pins - where do I find out what pins my trust allows? I know there are the rainbow ones that’s all I’ve seen.

I think you should speak to infection control and ask them if it is staff policy to wear a I am doubly vacinnated pin or badge. If it is they may produce their own. I have never seen anyone wear one for covid or other vaccinations .
