Working shorter days

I returned to work just over 5 months ago after been off sick with cancer. I use to work full day 8.30 - 6 but when I returned I realised I wouldn't be able to work long days anymore especially late afternoons as that when I get quite tired.
I spoke to my manager and he agreed that I could work 8.30 - 3 and i cut my hours down. Now he has told me her need me to start working full days again or later shifts as thats when I am needed more.
I feel so stressed and anxious about working longer/later shifts 😢

Start later in the day?

Did they change your contract to reflect the change in hours if so they have to change it again and if you refuse it could be health discrimination

I'd contact ACAS they're great at giving advice on this type of thing

It would be helpful to know a little more about the arrangement you previously came to, for example did you put in a flexible working request or was it part of a planned phased return to work?

It was part of a phased return. I tried to slowly build my hours back to my old hours but struggled with working past 3pm. I asked my manager if I could reduced my contract because of this and e planned that I would need to work shorter days now as longer days were too much for me.

I'd start the formal process for requesting a change to working hours, this then has to go through a set process and once agreed, should be formalised in your contract etc.

I agree with pp you need to formalise your part time working.
However, your manager does have a right to consider business needs. Have think about whether you could work 09:30 to 16:00, 10:30 to 17:00 or 11:30 to 18:00. Also think about when the peaks and troughs in the work are and what other resource is available. This will give you factual reasons why you can or can’t do a working pattern.
