I have an interview for an NHS HCA role, it involves Literacy/ numeracy tests, followed by practicals and if that is all ok an interview. I have no idea what to expect. Any advice? How easy/difficult are tests likely to be?

When my daughter applied for hca role she had to show how to fill out a fluid balance chart. May differ trust to trust.
Literacy haven't a clue 🤷🏻‍♀️ maybe to see that your writing is clearer than a doctors .
I doubt they want an essay

Sorry to ask as well, is this for a ward/department or the nurse bank?
Don't understand the practical assessment as you get your basic training when you get the post.

It's for various HCA posts across the trust, they match you to where they think is suitable for what I can gather.

Just google "NHS healthcare assistant literacy and numeracy test", you should find some example papers.

They are pretty basic, probably only 11+/year 7 level, things like fractions/percentages.

Thanks, I have done that but seems so varied like working out how much medicine based in weight which I didn't think a HCA wouldn't do.

HCAs can administer medication with training.

The calculations are just basic functional maths, don't be put off by the words.

Just an update which might help someone, I got the job. The tests were much more straight forward than I had revised for. The practicals were small groups of us discussing how we would deal with certain situations. Also working in pairs.
