Should I take the job and the pay cut that goes with it?

Hi there,

I've been enjoying the salary but struggling with the demands of my full time job and single parenthood. In a moment where I was particularly stressed I applied for a job share, same sector, same level but slightly less salary and obviously as it's a job share it's half the money when worked out pro rata.

Now I've been offered the position I am having doubts about whether to take it, universal credit would make up the shortfall in wages but do I want to be on UC? The job is flexible/hybrid working and local so it would be perfect in terms of working around the school run but I am concerned about my career and whether it will end up 'stagnating' in this position.

I am also considering reconciliation with my ex and if we did move back in together, I would lose any UC and not have much to offer towards bills and saving for a house deposit, this concerns me as it could maybe mean my partner becomes resentful.

Current role is flexible and home working but I am often in meetings or working well into the evening which means I am juggling dinner bath and bedtime with a work stuff that needs doing immediately (nature of the role). Management and culture is also crap and its an FTC until next summer whereas the job share role is permanent.

Any help or examples of personal experiences would be most welcome a single struggling to make a decision!

Thanks

If your children are very young I'd be more inclined to take the PT job, life will be easier in term of time (although not re partner / finances; only you know how those would be).

Thanks, my partner is saying it's ok but I know he isn't. My current salary would mean we could save up a house deposit in a year.
