Need urgent advice || accept job offer or not

I found out yesterday I went through all 3 interviews successfully and got offered a job! Which is brilliant, but I'm not sure if I should accept it.

Here's bit of a background. There is reorganisation going on in my current company. I might be at the risk of being made redundant (my workflows are being taken away and I'm not getting involved in any important calls etc.). I think they are just waiting for me to go.

The job I'm offered is good. Package is what I asked for and the job itself (at least on paper) looks better than what I'm doing now. I'll be able to gain new skills which is my main criteria. People seem to be nice as well. However, I'm offered 1st stage interviews with companies that I would prefer more (bigger companies, better known brands). However, there is no certainty if I would get any of those jobs or not (I might stand a chance on a couple of them, but you never know).

I'm also trying for a baby. The company that offered me a job would be less stressful compared to the bigger brands.

These are my options:

  1. Take the offer, eliminate the risk of being made redundant, have less stressful environment for potential pregnancy (in the very worst case, do the same job for more money than I'm currently on);
  2. Carry on with the interviews for the chance of working for a better known brand, risk being made redundant, potentially get into a very stressful/demanding environment.

Money wise, they offered me pretty much the highest that I can get. It's unlikely that any other jobs would pay me more.

I need to decide by COB on Monday. What would you do???

I'd take the offer. It ticks your box for learning new skills, less stress & good money.

The big firms will still be there in a few years when your LO is older and you have more experience!

EmmaC78 · 30/09/2021 20:22

I would take the offer as well, as you mention there is no guarantee at all about the other jobs.

Gizlotsmum · 30/09/2021 20:26

Take the offer.

PizzaBreath · 30/09/2021 20:29

Take it!

BrilliantBetty · 30/09/2021 20:30

I'd take it

BobaFettOnMyBedsideTable · 30/09/2021 20:32

Take the job. You don't have to stay there forever.

Jellybeanlovehearts · 30/09/2021 20:34

Definitely take the offer if it's what you want.

NotRainingToday · 30/09/2021 20:36

Agree with all pp, take the offer. Avoid stress, get something new on your CV.

ftw163532 · 30/09/2021 20:39

Take the offer.

Option 2 sounds a bit daft, I'm not sure I really understand why this is a dilemma?

JamieFrasersBigSwingingKilt · 30/09/2021 20:52

Take the offer but carry on interviewing. You only have a dilemma if one of those bigger brands offers you a job too. Then you can weigh up package, role, stress, etc. but you've got a great safety net anyway.

YankeeDad · 30/09/2021 21:02

The best work environments are most often not at the biggest companies, which also points towards taking the offer, at least in most industries!

However, one thing I'm not sure about is maternity leave / maternity pay and whether you would get less if you just joined a company before becoming pregnant.

I expect that other posters besides me will have better information on that one.

Ariela · 30/09/2021 21:09

Negotiate more money to take the offer.

GreatPotato · 30/09/2021 21:10

If you are made redundant would you be in line for much of a pay off and would that make a difference to your plans re work post baby?

Bostonbullsmumma · 30/09/2021 21:16

This is what I was going to say too! Just keep interviewing and see what happens!
MiamiBeach104 · 02/10/2021 12:50

Thank you all for replies. I think I am keen to take on the offer.

@JamieFrasersBigSwingingKilt and @Bostonbullsmumma I have not thought about that!! If I was to accept the offer and give my resignation, I suppose the only thing would be down to my own moral principles. However, if I was to sign the contract with them, where would I stand from the legal point if view?

@YankeeDad I agree with you on that one as well. Plus I would have a chance to work on more things too. I ave thought about maternity package. And most likely if I manage to get pregnant early (within my notice period or early into the employment) I would probably not get much. However, given I'm the main brad winner, I would have to go back to work after 3 months and my partner would look after the baby. I have savings and don't want to stay because of potential pregnancy because who knows when that's going to happen.

@GreatPotato (love your user name Grin!!) I would get a pay off if they made me redundant. But I'm not comfortable waiting for them to do that. Of course, it would be nice to have maternity leave within current company but I'll just blame myself if pregnancy doesn't happen and I stay in a sh*y job (new place have good maternity package/ for obviosu reasons I didn't ask about it Grin).
