How to make a good impression?

I'm starting a new professional (legal) job after graduating in 2020. It's my first real job and I'm early thirties. I've spent years raising children, working part time in shops and working freelance. I've not had to work with others before much or in a team and I'm feeling quite ashamed and wholly unprepared.

I don't think I'm cold but I do have an issue with overstepping personal boundaries (talking too long once I get going etc out of sheer nerves) How do new colleagues make the best impression on you in the first few months? I know I'm at the bottom of the pack so I'll be expected to do the work and not complain which is fine but in regards to making a good personal and professional impression, how do I go about it?

Say hi how are you to whoever you sit near, smile and say hi to everyone else. Offer to make a cuppa when you make yours. Complain about the weather as we all do when you get it. Above all don’t worry, people will be wary because your new bit a week or so in and everyone will be more settled. Good luck

Be polite and friendly but too over familiar and just keep your head down while you learn who is who.
Reading a room is an acquired skill!

Sorry NOT too over familiar!

I've always been told be someone who they could have a drink with. I try and not overshare (been guilty of this before) so just bite my tongue whenever I feel the need to say something too personal. Just pleasantries!

Turn up on time. Be part of the team. Offer to wash the cups if you see everyone else taking turns. Don't go on about the kids.

Good luck, it'll be fine!
