Jobs other than care I could do??!

Hello,

I’m currently working as a live-in carer and although my clients are lovely, I’m quite frankly sick of many aspects of the job: dealing with soiled bedding and clothing every day, personal care, being ‘on call’ 24/7, having to wait until the client is ready to go to bed (v late) yet being expected as a ‘professional’ to be up early each day, being a bit desperate for my daily break…the list goes on. I know I need to change as when my break is over I feel like crying, quite frankly!

I enjoy working with older people, helping to make their lives that bit easier etc, but I really don’t want to deal with bodily fluids all the time anymore. I’m so tired of all the endless loads of washing and changing big double beds each day!!

I was working in education teaching adults up until covid hit but don’t fancy doing face-to-face if I’m honest. Not sure whether to tutor online in some way or find another care orientated role that doesn’t involve too much in the way of bodily fluids. I hope that doesn’t sound unkind but it’d be worse to stay and resent doing the job, iyswim?

In terms of skills, I’m creative, organised, caring, personable and a quick thinker.

I need to make enough to live on- min of £500 per week net ideally as I wish to live on my own again but am used to living on a very tight budget for many reasons. Any ideas, please?

Would you fancy working in a care home? Set hours, so you’d have time properly away for yourself.

I worked for a company called Home Instead Senior Care. They are a franchise and fairly large company. They match you to your clients and don't make you do anything that you don't want to do, well, at least that was how it worked almost a year ago. It's care in the community where you support people to live independently in their own homes. Could not recommend my employer highly enough. Good luck.

What about an advocate? Can’t explain it is I have a broken arm so poor typing skills but if you google it you should get results

Or what about an OT assistant or physio assistant?

Thanks for the ideas and not pulling me up on being a bit squeamish, everyone (so far!!). A care home is definitely not for me, but interested in advocacy.
I applied to Home Instead a long time ago, @MyMoneyIsAllSpent, had a lovely phone interview and never heard from them again! And @Spidey66, yes, definitely interested in assisting an OT, but again had the the phone interview but then didn’t get selected- apparently it’s quite competitive as people do this job before (and often after) OT training, much like paralegal jobs are often snapped up by qualified solicitors now.

Have you thought about working for a charity for older people? Is there one like this local to you: scccc.co.uk/about-us/what-we-do?
