I think I've worked it out to £9.30 as added 4 weeks holiday pay! It sure if it's right or if I'm just in shock that it's alot less then I thought 😢. Got an interview this afternoon.

Can anyone help me work out the hourly pay for this TA position?

I want to work part time ideally so so trying to work out how many hours I need to work based on the hourly wage.

I haven’t done the maths but that sounds normal for a TA wage sadly.

FawnFrenchieMum · 22/09/2021 10:10

I've worked out:

£13,074 / 39 weeks = £335.23
£335.23 / 29.5 = £11.36

Not sure if that is correct though with pro-rata for term time & part time

ChicChaos · 22/09/2021 10:16

They've given you the salary range pro-rata, it will be a bit less than that overall because you'll work less than 39 weeks (term has already started).

Not sure what you've done with the holidays as I'd say the 'hourly' rate was the same as Fawn. It's unlikely you are able to take holidays from the role so I'd ask about how that is paid, could be included in your monthly salary - good luck with the interview later.

ChicChaos · 22/09/2021 10:18

The 'hourly' rate is assuming you are working 29.5 hours a week - if the 29.5 hours a week refers to the full time rate, it would be higher. There may be a bit missing from the advert at the side. I'd just go by the annual rates that they've given you.

titchy · 22/09/2021 10:26

It looks like a FT equivalent would be based on a 36 hour week with 5 weeks paid holiday which is 1692 working hours. £19,312/1692 is £11.40 an hour.

TheTeenageYears · 22/09/2021 10:27

To a degree the hourly rate is almost irrelevant. It's a salaried position for full time hours for that role and term time only. There is no option to earn more by doing more hours or more weeks. The benefit is school hours and term time only.

If you want to compare to another non school part time role it's probably easier to make a comparison. For example if somewhere was paying min wage of £8.91. Working the same 29.25 hours per week but all year round the salary would be £13,552.11. Within that would be 4/5 weeks holiday possibly + bank holidays. The salary would obviously be lower for term time only but there might be the option to work more hours or more weeks unlike the school role.

OK thank you. It says full time but also part time available. Ideally I'd like to work 20 hours so was wanting to work my monthly pay really. In my current job I take home alot less each month because its worked out over 12mths so I get paid 4 weekly evenduring the hols. In my job before that I was pay as you go. Just a bit confusing 🙈

If you want to work out the salary on 20 hours, calculate 20/29.25 times the 13074 salary they quote. I make that 8939, but please check my maths.

Yes, you will get some of the holidays paid (but not all of them!). So the pay is about 43 weeks of the year. Mine is paid in 12 equal amounts.

Viviennemary · 22/09/2021 10:49

It seems to be really poor pay if you work it out hourly. I thought the holiday pay was included in the annual salary. Some places average it out so you get the same amount each month. And I bet you will be expected to stay behind sometimes and no extra pay.

Meltinthemiddle · 22/09/2021 11:03

Ah OK 😭 it's working a special need school so hoping the pay would actually be more then what I'm on in mainstream! 🤦‍♀️

You need to know how many weeks working as for term time staff you still get the statutory minimum 5.6 weeks paid (so for 29.25 hours in this case) but obviously it doesn't say whether this is on top of 39 weeks actually working or within that. Agree with PP, the hourly pay is somewhat irrelevant.

MySaladDaysAreGone · 22/09/2021 11:14

You would be paid for 39 weeks plus holiday entitlement weeks probs as @ketchupman has stated. You would get the yearly salary split over 12 months equally. I would divide the quoted price rated salary by 12 or 52 to see what monthly or weekly pay would be.
