Contracting, issues, advice appreciated

I accepted a contract to perm role in January after being out of work for nearly a year. There were three interviews and I was assured I’d be made permanent after three months and it was just a formality. I wanted a permanent job, not indefinite contracting and I made this clear.

At the end of the first three months, my contract was extended another three months due to HR not having sorted out all of the permanent roles (I was told) but that I’d be made permanent during that time.

In the interim, a new director came in and it was decided that all the contractors (nearly everyone) would have to apply for their roles which would be advertised externally. I was annoyed but decided to go with it. My contract was extended again. I’ve had two ‘interviews’, and heard nothing more. My line manager (also a contractor) has today been approached to ask him to agree to work at permie rates instead but without actually being made permie and I suspect they will try and ask me to do the same.

For a variety of reasons, I’m not down with this. Has anyone else had the same kind of situation? How did you handle it?

Well, as it turns out, the company decided to just bin the lot of us so all of your very helpful suggestions have come to nought. Thank you to everyone who bothered to contribute.

Sorry to hear that, OP.Flowers

I'm afraid I don't know very much about your rights as a contractor, but I hope you find something else very soon.
