What is the nuclear industry like to work in?

I work in a technical role but never done anything with the nuclear industry but I believe my skills would transfer to that sector easily.

I’ve seen a few adverts for jobs that seem to be really promoting flexible working, additional holidays, training and all of the good things you’d want to hear rather than statutory requirements dressed up as ‘benefits’. Is the industry offering this because they’ve found it works well in attracting new recruits or is the industry so awful it has to offer that to get people through the door?

It's a fantastic industry imo. Well paid and deals with very interesting technology. Traditionally, many parts of the industry haven't offered much flexible working due to the security controls often required (such as security clearance, even on civil sites). That involves having hugely more complex control of information, not something that goes easily with wfh. There aren't many tech jobs that would enable 100%wfh I would imagine.

But tbh every job I see right now is talking about flexible working as a perk, not just nuclear.

If you do go for the role, make sure you do some reading into the industry, there are a few big things happening, which explains the recruitment uptick, much of which has been in the national media, so it won't be very impressive if you don't know about it in interview.

Thanks @Shurl I’ll definitely investigate further with that glowing recommendation.
