Can anyone advise me on what to do next?

I had money deducted from my wages two months ago and my useless manager is taking forever to sort it out. He keeps fobbing me off with different reasons for why it happened.
The company I work for doesn't let us contact payroll personally it has to be through management.
I received no notification that they would be taking any money from me.
Can anyone advise on what I should do? Hate dealing with stuff like this 😩

Can you raise a grievance? Is there an HR team you can speak to?

The first thing is to make absolutely certain this is an error. I.e you haven't agreed to it weeks ago or there are no expected court orders? Have you perhaps been overpaid in a previous month?

Try and keep all communication in written form. If you ever speak to anyone about this matter face to face or on a call make sure it's following up in writing. (E.g. following our phone call earlier today, here is a summary of the discussion points.) Should things get a bit tricky you then always have evidence.

Are you in a union? If so, contact them for guidance. I would also get in to with ACAS.

@dmudbur I have gone through all my wage slips and can't see any over payment and I haven't agreed to any deductions. If I was over paid at some point then I completely understand I need to repay but would like my manager to show me where I was over paid. Now my manager has started asking me to work extra hours as we are short staffed due to a covid outbreak, but I don't want to work any until my wages are sorted, can't trust I will be paid. Due to the deduction my wages went below minimum wage that month, can the company do that?

Write a letter saying that you want to be repaid any deduction, remind them that it took your pay below minimum wage and that you will be informing HMRC if not resolved within 7 days.

You don't need to agree to a deduction if the instruction is issued by the DWP or similar. What explanation has the manager given?

I reduced my contract and he said it was due to that but I can't see the error. So in June my take home pay was £1000 my last month working my old contract. In July on my new contract my take home pay was £600 and in August my take home pay was £720 which is what I expected. Shouldn't my July and August pay be the same as I worked the same hours? My July pay slip said back pay - £120.

What date did you change your hours, and what date does the pay period run until? Are you paid in arrears, or part in arrears/ part in advance? You might have this information in your contract, or you might have to ask.

If it states back pay, but then there is a negative figure, that suggests you've been overpaid in the last period you received full pay.

What date did you change your hours on, and what date does payroll run from?
At a glance from the info above, it reads like they overpaid you in June, so clawed it back in July.

I changed my contract on June 28th, my wage slip shows the hours I worked that month and it is correct to what I worked, July and August are the same.
